"Definitely a laid back approach to learning map reading and understanding off the countryside.
I had a beginner day with Fabian Seymour ( AFS Mountain Walks ) on the 7 Sept of this year , his friendly attitude towards learning, was really good . His knowledge in this area was second to none , so I would highly recommend him to anyone, whether it be individuals or groups /organisations, Seeking to learn or brush up on navigation skills in the outdoors."
To find out about the National Navigation Award Scheme, please visit the NNAS website.
For more information about the NNAS courses that we run, please see the information on each award below and how to register to come on one:
We offer two-day Bronze or Silver National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) map and compass courses which include training and assessment. The syllabus has been prepared by NNAS and as such requires an additional registration through NNAS (via an additional Consent form found on the individual page).
For Bronze courses, there is a maximum of 8 per two day course.
For Silver courses, there is a maximum of 6 per two day course.
1-2-1 tuition or groups up to 4 can be arranged. These courses introduce people to the use of maps and compasses, and provide you with the confidence to plan your own routes and venture off paths and tracks.
These activities are unlikely to be suitable for young kids, but those considering entering the DofE scheme may find them useful (14-18). Under 18's are welcome so long as they are accompanied by parent(s)/guardian(s).
We can also provide non-accredited advice about your navigation through one of my single day walks. If you would like a bespoke half/full day walk with an emphasis on your navigation skills please see the Single Day Walks page and discuss this with us before booking.
We run NNAS courses in the North York Moors NP (for a map of the National Parks please see here) and the Howgill Fells (western Yorkshire Dales NP and they are two full days over a weekend. You will need to book accommodation near to where the course is run and we will arrange a start time and location.
To find out about the courses and the next scheduled course please see the links for Bronze and Silver
For either the Bronze or Silver NNAS Course the cost is £125 per person (excluding transport and accommodation). There is a minimum of 2 people required to run a NNAS course.
NNAS course costs include instruction, assessment and upon successful completion an award certificate (badges are available at additional cost, currently £2.50).
